I'm Anna Urazova, a visual artist exploring the connections between the body, movement, and emotion through intricate, anatomy-inspired forms. My work focuses on transformation, healing, and self-discovery, using art as a medium beyond language.
Art practice
Anna Urazova is a visual artist who explores the intricate connections between the body, movement, and emotion. For her, the body serves as a profound starting point—its gestures and positions shape internal chemistry and emotions. The sketch begins with a stroke or line, and I let the picture unfold to grow as if the entire image had existed in embryonic form in the first line. Embodied emotions can trigger psychosomatic processes, so an art object can literally fall under the skin.
Urazova blends gestural marks with intricate details using oil-based pencils sharpened to needle-like precision. Her work merges organic shapes, body forms, and natural motifs like plants and shells, creating anatomy-like constructions that blur the boundaries between humans and nature. On a broader level, Urazova examines themes of body awareness and self-discovery. She views art as a powerful medium for processing experiences and trauma, aligning with David Cycleback’s belief that art offers intuitive, emotional, and psychological insights into ourselves and the world. It conveys ideas that words cannot.
Her art delves into themes of transformation and healing, resonating with the belief that creativity transcends language. Represented by galleries like Galleri Heike Arndt DK, Urazova has participated in events such as the Antwerp Queer Art Festival. In 2024 she held a solo exhibition at Paul Verbeeck Gallery, further solidifying her distinctive artistic vision.
